Before becoming a veterinary physiotherapist training consists of completing a three or four year full time BSc degree in human physiotherapy (link www.csp.org.uk) and undertaking two years post graduate work within human practice. The physiotherapist can then train through a scheme run by The Association of Chartered Physiotherapists in Animal Therapy (A.C.P.A.T) (link www.acpat.org) or complete a Post Graduate Diploma or MSc in Veterinary Physiotherapy run by the Royal Veterinary College in London (link www.rvc.ac.uk). All chartered physiotherapists who treat animals work with veterinary permission only, abiding by the Veterinary Surgeons Act of 1966. WORK EXPERIENCE We do not take work experience students due to the constraints of our insurance policy. If you wish to become a chartered veterinary physiotherapist work experience is usually undertaken in an NHS hospital physiotherapy department.
